It’s fascinating how quickly things become normal when you have no other choice. I mean, I guess could have chosen not to bring him home from the hospital but that would make this blog a lot less funny. My life has become this comedy of errors trying to figure out a routine that can work. It’d be sooooo great if his bathroom schedule would fit into these plans too.
Brock can’t walk or pee on his own. He apparently has zero control over his bowels, but I know he saves them for when it’s most inconvenient. There are a number of challenges he and I both face with his recovery, but I’m attempting to maintain a sense of humor. Below are some random things that have become normal, everyday occurrences. Enjoy…
Last night he thought it’d be fun to drop a huge poop in the physical therapy waiting room. My response wasn’t one of being mortified, but rather happy he did it on floors that clean easily.
I have a jar labeled Brock’s pee. Wouldn’t want that mistaken for olive oil!
Things that are never more than 3ft away-
- baby wipes
- gloves
- potty pads
- febreze
- a bottle of whiskey
Now this is a Valentine’s Date
Run like a dog on his food bowl is a purposeful taunt
He licks his wiener and randomly pees. I hate encouraging this behavior, but I do it in the hopes that he’s stimulating himself. That it will somehow result in him gaining control once again. If you’ve never heard this sound thank your lucky stars. It makes nails a chalk board sound like Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music. I hate the Sound of Music
this encouragement has backfired into 3am wakeups
Shit happens has taken on an entirely new meaning
questions like- ‘is that poop or did I sit you in mud?’
Really regretting this interior color choice
KY jelly…for my dog…
Absolutely no pig ears ever again
half rations on food, it’s like carrying around a 40lb sack of potatoes
A new and unnecessary orthopedic bed. The one in the background is memory foam that’s three years old. I guess he needed an upgrade.
This made me think of stories your mom and dad would share when she had her colostomy bag for that little bit of time.
The things you do for love!
